Red Carpet Recap: Oscars 2012

I've struggled this year establishing many opinions about the red carpet gowns. None have been earthshattering looks - neither terrible nor beautiful.

Again, I wasn't too impressed with the looks of the 84th Academy Awards. Maybe I'm alone in those feelings. But I've just felt so meh about most of the looks.

But here are some of my thoughts...

Congrats to Octavia Spencer wearing Tadashi Shoji for her best supporting actress win for her part in The Help. She looked gorgeous in two of the trends - white and embellishments. I loved the shape of the dress which flattered her curves.

Fellow best supporting actress nominee and costar in The Help Jessica Chastain wore Alexander McQueen gown, which embraced the embellishment trend as well. I enjoyed the vintage feel of this dress and was "old Hollywood" while also feeling new.

Sandra Bullock again wore Marchesa, and perhaps this dress wasn't figure flattering, I think it was unique, however. But I'm a sucker for black and white.

Judy Greer looked chic in Monique Lhuillier. I really liked the simple column dress with the straight lines of sparkle.

Gwenth Paltrow thinks she's a super hero in Tom Ford. I wasn't crazy about the cape, but she stood out. And white was on trend.

Milla Jovovich wore an embellished, white, structured Elie Saab.

I don't know who she is and my dad says ABC News should not outsource its hosts (especially with the Made in America segments), but I really liked the art deco, 1920s feel of Louise Roe's dress.

Don't ask me who is the accessory for the night, but Stacy Kleibler took this Marchesa gown right off the runway.

Now for my meh looks...
Viola Davis rocked the natural hair and looked great. But this Vera Wang dress (with matchy matchy earrings) has too many design elements and I don't like the way the top squishes her boobs and cuts them in half with the seam and the beading.

I've heard looks of compliments about Rooney Mara in Givenchy, but I liked many of her other premiere carpet looks more. And I hated the back which looks like bandages.

Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli. Meh. I did like the keyhole in the front, which you can't see in the photos.

Congrats to Meryl Streep for only her third Oscar win. She dressed in Oscar gold in Lavin. I want to like this, but I think the proportions are off... it should be flattering, but her shoulders look wide and her waist isn't cinched in.

I don't have any real feelings about Michelle Williams Louis Vuitton dress. I hate peplum, but mostly because it looks terrible on me. She can wear it. I think there are too many design elements and I hate the "precious" bow broach on her waist. She's a grown woman. Over it.

For me, the worst of the night, though again, I don't have any terrible aversions to the dress. is Angelina Jolie in Versace. I hate her using her leg as the accessory. Her leg and hand stance was just obnoxious. Standing with your legs more than a foot and a half apart for the entre red carpet and then again on the stage is so not ladylike. But this is man-stealing Angie we are talking about.

Didn't even turn on the TV to watch.
Let the 1% admire the 1% and the rest of us have a life!

You have 14 pictures there.
Had this been the Bachelor, with 13 roses for 14 choices, only ONE rose would be used and the rest of these gals sent packing.

Judy Greer sadly has a poor backdrop in the picture; all black. This hid the left and right side of her dress as it matched the black background curtain. But her redhead hairstyle , beguiling smirk, and "Oakland Raider-ette-silver-and-black-Attack!-Attack!" cheerleader colors are winners.
She gets the sole rose, and the season is cancelled.
She also gets another Bachelor, another story.

Had she turned 90 degrees with a long red carpet in the background to accent the black on the outside of her outfit, she would smash the rest.
Not hard to do this year.

Streep was wearing something, God alone knows, when her name was called. She went onstage, fell into the gold curtains, twirled like a hunk of cotton candy, and came out like in your pic.
What a mess.
She does get credit for her purse...a winner.

All the gals carried tiny, tiny clutches.
In college,a psychobabble prof said that women with high self esteem use small purses, and women with low self esteem tend toward large bags.
In dating, I always noted that advice and saw it relatively TRUE.

Go look at GoErie production called Pop of Style, an advertisement for Marshal's and counterfeit goods, like Michael Kors purse on sale from $400 to $40 this week folks! This Pop-ette gal ALWAYS walks around like a guest on the Flintstones, on the lookout for a sale at Erie County Farms for a brontosaurus piece for Fred and Barney to stuff in her overwhelming bags, she carries (low self-esteem issues?).

NONE of the 1% on the carpet carry that crap around.

Still, a dismal offering, and had most of these folks worn last years outfit, no one would know, for know one watched then either. See, it is up to them to jump start the economy with hideous dress and Movies too.

Clooney is ALWAYS taller than his flavor of the month girlfriend, including this one, so the picture is a keeper as he looks tiny.
Constipation setting in most likely.

Gwyneth (is that a name?) has jewelry that makes her wrist look broken and put in a cast to heal.
I wonder if that comes in full body size for her.

I know you are meh on Viola Davis.
Men, in general, do not mind dress tops that squish boobs, or even cut them in half. That part is acceptable. But the color gives new meaning to the word barf. Her Christmas tree ornament outfit needs taken down, and put in the attic, as the season of red and green is over. She is not meh, she is blah.

Rooney Mara needs a new haircut and style, not a new dress. Her dress is retro Three Mile Island....a classic meltdown, harmful to viewers and those nearby.

A good redhead will snap the neck of any guy walking by, but Angelina has lost it completely.
Had she given birth more,... and adopted less, she would no longer be in public. I think the leg fiasco was an adjustment of her Depends under that mess of a dress.

Then again, Jen Aniston got a "Star" on Hollywood Blvd and got on both knees and hands for pics touching her stone. And there on her left wedding ring finger was that wedding ring anew, a reminder that she lost long ago, and is a real-life Groundhog Day Movie forever.
